Barlow Respiratory Hospital is Southern California's only not-for-profit long-term acute care facility. We are a specialty healthcare organization, improving the quality of life for patients with respiratory and other diseases that may require prolonged acute hospitalization or specialized treatment in the Southern California region. However, patients come to Barlow for its expert, compassionate care from around the nation, and even from overseas.

Founded in 1902 by Walter Jarvis Barlow, M.D., this charitable institution began as a a site to care for patients suffering from tuberculosis. Over time, the hospital has broadened its mission into respiratory research, diagnosis, and treatment, becoming a leader in its field.

Barlow treats the most critically ill patients needing long-term acute care. Over 70 hospitals, ICUs and emergency rooms spanning all of L.A. and its surrounding counties trust and depend on Barlow for its specialized care.
