Description:

gainline Africa is a New and Unique Canadian Sports for Development Organization That Utilizes the Power of Rugby and Sport for Development in Post Conflict Communities in Africa. We Believe That Rugby is a Non-intrusive, Efficient and Cost Effective Tool to Assess and Address Many of the Social and Developmental Issues That Arise in Post Conflict Communities.

Through a Variety of Grass Roots Initiatives with Communities in Africa, We Seek to Educate Canadians on the Various Benefits of Sport (specifically Rugby) in Post-conflict Settings. Through This Education of the Issues Andour Initiatives, We Seek to Inspire Involvement of Canadians in Our Various Programs That Connect the Power of Rugby to Development. Ultimately Our Programs Will Directly Improve the Lives and Empower the Youth of Those Communities We Target.

Gulu, Nortern Uganda is the Site of Gainline Africa’s Inaugural Projects. Working with the Community Through a Revitalized Rugby Club, the Gulu Elephants, Gainline Africa is Currently Working with 8 High Schools to Provide Them with After School Rugby Clubs Run by Gainline Staff and Elephant Members. Youth Not Only Have the Opportunity to Learn and Excel at Rugby, but Are Provided with a Variety of Programs Including Leadership Training and Mentorship from Fellow Ugandan Rugby Players Who Volunteer Their Time to Inspire the Youth to Follow Their Dreams.

the Name Gainline Africa Comes from a Well-known Rugby Union Term “gainline”. in Rugby Union, the Gainline is an Imaginary Line Drawn Across the Pitch at the Point Where There is a Breakdown in Open Play, Such As a Ruck, Maul or Scrum. the Goal of the Attacking Team in Rugby is to Move the Ball Beyond the Gainline, Maintain Possession and Eventually Cross the Try Line. Consequently, the Gainline Represents What All Teams Strive to Work Beyond to a Well-recognized Goal. Our Organization and Its Members Firmly Believe That the Sport of Rugby Can and Should Be Used As a Powerfulvehicleforafricandevelopment.

to Ensure Sustainability and Longevity of the Organization, We Are Aligning Ourselves with a Variety of Organizations and Individuals, Both Rugby and Non-rugby, at the National, Provincial, and Regional Levels Here in Canada and Uganda. We Are Speaking with High Schools, Universities, City Rugby Clubs, and Rugby Canada About Collaborations Within a Variety of Our Initiatives.

We Are Incorporated, and Have Applied for the Canadian Government Cra Registered Charity Status. Our Current Operational Board is a Diverse Group of Men and Women from Across Canada (vancouver to Montreal to Toronto) That Bring a Variety of Expertise in Finance, Pr, Web Design, Non-profit Work and Development. We Are Driven by Our Experiences and Knowledge That Positive Change is Easily Achievable Through Organization, Preparation and Proper Execution.
