On January 1st, 2016, Wheelchair & Ambulatory Sports USA introduced the new name and brand of the national organization as Adaptive Sports USA. Founded in 1956 as the National Wheelchair Athletic Association (NWAA), the organization has now progressed to serving as a comprehensive competitive sports organization for individuals of all ages with physical disabilities.
